Traditional Steps
Step One: Recognizing Our Powerlessness: Embracing the Journey from Chaos to Clarity
We acknowledge that we are powerless over our total wellbeing and dependency on the sex addict in our life, and that our lives have become chaotic and unmanageable.
Step Two: Finding Balance Through a Higher Power
We come to believe that a Higher Power can help us regain our sanity and find a healthy balance within ourselves and our relationship with the addict in our lives.
Step Three: Trusting Our Lives to a Higher Power
We decide to trust our lives and our will to our Higher Power, or whatever we see as our higher power, as we understand it.
Step Four: Taking an Honest Look at Ourselves
We take a clear and honest look at ourselves and the chaos or insanity we created through our actions, as well as the chaos caused by the addict in our life.
Step Five: Disclosure
Admit to our Higher Power and to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs within the insanity.
Step Six: Being Prepared
We’re entirely ready to have our Higher Power remove all these defects of character.
Step Seven: Asking for Help to Become Our Best Selves
We humbly ask our Higher Power to help us let go of our flaws and restore our sanity.
Step Eight: Steps Toward Healing Relationships
We make a list of everyone we have harmed, including those who may have harmed us, and promise, to ourselves and our Higher Power, to make amends to each of them.
Step Nine: Making Amends Thoughtfully
We make direct amends to those we had harmed whenever possible, unless doing so would cause harm to them, others, or ourselves, and we are willing to accept amends from others when sincerely made.
Step Ten: Owning Our MistakesWe regularly reflect on our past and present actions, and we promptly admit when we are wrong or done harm, both now and moving forward.
Step Eleven: Deepening Our Connection with a Higher Power
We use prayer and meditation to strengthen our connection with our Higher Power as we understand It. We pray for understanding of Their will for us and the strength to follow it.
Step Twelve: Sharing and Living the New Beginnings
After experiencing a spiritual or self reflective restart from following these steps, we aim to share this message with others in need and practice these principles in our daily lives
